An estimated $24 million shipment of drugs was confiscated in Egypt.


Egyptian border troops seized a large shipment of drugs estimated at approximately $24 million. This was reported on May 29 by the Masrawy online portal, citing a source in the country's armed forces.
"Border troops have dealt a severe blow to drug smugglers and traffickers <...> The total value of the seized is estimated at approximately 1.2 billion guineas (Egyptian pounds. — Ed.)," the publication says.
It is reported that the seized narcotic substances have been transferred to the competent authorities for legal action.
According to the portal, the drugs, with a total weight of 12 tons, were hidden in a truck with vegetables.
Earlier in the day, The Independent newspaper reported that cannabis was found in a batch of Happy Cola F!ZZ chewable candies from Haribo in the Netherlands. It is clarified that the drug was found after members of a family in the Netherlands felt dizzy after eating sweets and reported it to the police.
