Putin announced Shinzo Abe's desire to restore relations between Russia and Japan

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sought to fully restore Russian-Japanese relations. This was stated on May 29 by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the widow of Japanese politician Akie Abe.
"Your husband has done a lot for the development of Russian-Japanese relations. And I have a very good personal relationship with him. I also remember my trips to Japan at his invitation. I saw that he sincerely sought to fully restore Russian-Japanese cooperation and did a lot for this," Putin said.
According to him, the former prime minister continued the tradition of his family, as his father, who was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, adhered to the same position. Putin also expressed gratitude for this. He noted that Russia has always respected Abe's work in this area. The state also remembers his contribution to the development of Russian-Japanese relations.
"His life was tragically cut short by a terrorist attack. But the memory of him and his activities, his work, is carefully preserved in Russia," Putin said.
The assassination attempt on Shinzo Abe took place on July 8, 2022. On this day, he took part in an event within the framework of the election campaign held in the city of Nara. As a result of the assassination attempt, the 67-year-old politician was hospitalized with gunshot wounds. He died in the hospital some time later.
