The White House confirmed Israel's agreement to a 60-day truce in Gaza.

Israel has signed a proposal by the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and American leader Donald Trump for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. This was announced by White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt at a briefing at the White House on May 29.
"I can confirm that Special Envoy Witkoff and President (Trump. — Ed.) presented a cease-fire proposal to Hamas, which Israel supported. Israel signed this proposal before it was sent to Hamas," Leavitt said, whose speech was broadcast on the White House website.
According to her, the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has been a priority of the Trump administration from the very beginning.
According to the Israeli newspaper Walla, the new proposal for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip does not contain guarantees for its extension and reserves for Israel the possibility of a unilateral withdrawal from the agreement. It is clarified that the proposal takes into account Israeli positions more.
The Israeli Ynet portal adds that Witkoff's proposal to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip implies an immediate cease-fire in the enclave for 60 days and the release of 10 hostages during the first week in two stages. Hamas will also have to hand over the bodies of 18 dead hostages to Israel.
It is noted that the remaining hostages will be released after the end of the conflict in Gaza. Otherwise, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will be able to resume hostilities.
On May 28, it became known that Hamas had agreed to Whitkoff's proposal for the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the US initiative also implies the creation of a professional committee that will take over the management of Gaza immediately after the announcement of the agreement.
