A lot of new trucks and vans were shown at the Comvex 2025 commercial transport exhibition in Moscow. Against the background of a sharp decline in demand for such equipment and a twofold drop in sales, domestic and foreign (primarily Chinese) manufacturers do not lose hope for the Russian market, presenting new models and highly specialized modifications of commercial equipment. Everything has fallen, everything is gone

In the first four months of this year, sales of heavy trucks (over 16 tons) fell by 51%. This was announced by Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat analytical agency, at a conference at Comvex 2025. The picture is slightly better in the "medium–tonnage" segment (3.5-16 tons): there is a drop of 48%. The best situation is in the LCV segment (up to 3.5 tons). However, even here, sales decreased by 14% in the first four months, said Sergey Tselikov.

He cites the previous increase in sales, which increased by more than 70% by the end of 2023, as the main reason for the sharp drop in demand for large and medium-tonnage machinery.

"The situation is more stable in the LCV segment, as Chinese automakers have not entered it and there has been no active sales growth in previous years," said Sergey Tselikov.

Three ways

Autostat has prepared several scenarios for the development of events in the truck market in various segments. With an optimistic forecast, sales of LCV models will remain at the level of last year. In a realistic scenario, the market is expected to fall by 10%. The pessimistic scenario assumes a 20% decrease.

Sergey Tselikov noted that 112 thousand light commercial vehicles will be sold under the first option (10-11 thousand cars should be sold per month). In the second case, sales will amount to 100.8 thousand (8-10 thousand per month), and in the third case — 89.6 thousand (7-8 thousand per month).

A different picture is predicted in the "heavyweight". Here, even the optimistic forecast from Autostat analysts suggests a 30% decrease in sales (to 71.4 thousand trucks). Under a realistic scenario, slightly more than 61 thousand cars will be sold (-40%), while under a pessimistic scenario, sales will decrease by 50% to 51 thousand.

— So far, in all segments of the commercial equipment market, we are moving according to the latest, pessimistic scenario, — said Sergey Tselikov.

A scattering of new products

Despite the not very bright prospects, manufacturers of commercial vehicles have brought many new models to the Comvex 2025 exhibition, which will soon be available for sale. For example, Foton showed a new all-metal van View, which is equipped with a two-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 163 hp in combination with a six-speed manual transmission. The car with a gross weight of 3.2 tons has a hatch in the cargo compartment that allows you to partially place long objects that do not fit into the "trunk" in the passenger compartment, rigging hinges for securing cargo, and the rear doors can open 247 degrees, which allows you to reverse to the loading ramp.

The second novelty from Foton is the Tunland G9 pickup truck with an automatically plug—in all-wheel drive. It is equipped with a two-liter 162-horsepower diesel engine combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its ground clearance is 210 mm.

Dongfeng showed a new medium-tonnage 12-ton KB120 truck. The car, equipped with a 200-horsepower turbodiesel combined with a six-speed manual transmission, will be available with six wheelbase options. According to the company's representatives, the car is currently undergoing Russian certification. It is expected that it will appear on the market in the fall.

But sales of the Sadko 9 four-wheel drive truck began simultaneously with its presentation. The single-slope tire model is offered with two wheelbase options. The car is equipped with a 4.5-liter YaMZ-534 turbodiesel with a capacity of 169 hp, a five-speed manual transmission and a two-stage transfer case with a step-down range. The front-wheel drive is connected by force using an electronic transfer case.

KAMAZ showed a new version of the K5 truck, which the manufacturer himself calls a "delivery truck". However, taking into account the availability of a sleeping place in the cabin and a load capacity of 9170 kg, it is still closer to mainline trucks.

The second novelty from a domestic manufacturer of commercial vehicles from Tatarstan is the compact Compass model with a double—row cabin. A "passenger" category B is sufficient for driving, since its gross weight is 3490 kg. This modification, designed to carry five passengers and 1,155 kg of cargo, is primarily aimed at utility and repair services.

The main premiere at the stand of the Chinese manufacturer Sitrak was the new C9H tractor truck, adapted for Russian operating conditions. The car received a new cabin with improved aerodynamics, and the volume of the car's fuel tanks was increased to 1.3 thousand liters especially for our country. The tractor is equipped with a 480-horsepower turbodiesel.

The situation with sales of trailed vehicles completely repeats the picture with trucks — a 51% drop. Despite this, trailer manufacturers have also prepared new items. For example, a new curtain semi-trailer from the domestic manufacturer Mayer Cargoline (factory in the Ryazan region), assembled from Russian components, debuted at Comvex 2025. Due to the widespread use of aluminum, the basic 13.6-meter version of the semi-trailer is about 400 kg lighter than its analogues, and its elongated 16.7-meter modification is able to accommodate 41 standard pallets, while similar trailers are designed for only 38-40 pallets.

Narrow specialization

Against the background of falling sales of conventional trucks, a number of manufacturers decided to engage in highly specialized equipment. For example, on the street (he just couldn't fit into the exhibition hall) A huge three-axle KamAZ dump truck was shown, designed to carry 50 tons of rock. It is powered by a 13-liter, 560-horsepower diesel engine that works in conjunction with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The Belarusian MAZ showed in Moscow its first fully electric garbage truck equipped with a 204-horsepower engine. With a fully charged battery, the car can travel up to 200 km, loading 20 "cubes" of waste weighing up to 10 tons on board. Due to its silent operation, it can be used to remove garbage from residential areas at night, when a number of restrictions apply to ordinary "scavengers".

JAC showed at the exhibition an all-wheel drive chassis with a 6×6 wheel formula with a lifting capacity of 16.5 tons, designed for the installation of cranes, drilling rigs, and other equipment necessary for oil and gas production. The truck is equipped with a 343 hp engine. The chassis is currently undergoing certification, and sales are expected to begin at the end of the year.

Another similar novelty is the all—wheel drive chassis of the Russian manufacturer Remdiesel. The sample presented at the exhibition is still only a prototype. However, according to the company's representatives, it is planned to enter mass production by the end of the year. The truck is planned to be produced in partnership with Chinese companies, in particular, using engines and transmissions from China with gradual localization.
