Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Ukrainian authorities have reached a preliminary agreement to provide Kiev with the ninth tranche of $500 million. The corresponding statement was published on the foundation's official website on May 29.

"The IMF staff and the Ukrainian authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the eighth review of the EFF (four-year extended financing program. — Ed.), which is subject to approval by the IMF Executive board," said Gavin Gray, head of the IMF negotiating group in Kiev, quoted in the statement.

It is specified that if the tranche is approved, the total payments under the terms of the four-year program will amount to $10.65 billion.

"All quantitative performance criteria and indicative targets for the end of March have been met, and progress continues on the structural agenda to be reviewed," the IMF added.

Forbes Ukraine magazine reported on May 5 that the IMF recommended that Ukraine raise taxes to fill the state budget in 2026. It is specified that among the proposed measures is an increase in the VAT rate and the introduction of a progressive scale of personal income tax.
