The import of used cars from China to Russia increased 6.5 times

In the first four months of 2025, 10.4 thousand used Chinese-made passenger cars were imported to Russia. Import growth in this segment was 550%. In other words, this is 6.5 times more than in January –April last year, when 2.47 thousand used cars from China were imported into the country, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel.

"The main focus is on cars that have just turned three years old. Accordingly, the condition is still good, and the customs payment is minimal," the expert explained.

According to him, among the used cars from China, Russia mainly supplies very "fresh" cars: the share of 2021 cars in imports was 48%, 2020 - 29%, and 2022 — 22%.

The most popular brands in the import structure were Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen and Geely. Mitsubishi, Changan, Hyundai, Skoda, Audi and Kia rounded out the top ten. Among the used Chinese-made models in Russia, Toyota RAV4 is the most used (606 units). in January – April), Mitsubishi Outlander (584 units) and Toyota Corolla (491 units).

On May 27, the analyst said that in 2024, Toyota cars assembled in China accounted for 61% of all sales (12.7 thousand from 20.8 thousand units) of the brand's cars in Russia. In 2025, the share increased to 74%, from January to April of this year, 3,654 copies of Chinese Toyota were sold.
