Dealers explained the growing demand for used cars in Russia

In April, the used car market in Russia increased by almost 14% compared to March and for the first time this year exceeded the level of 500 thousand cars. The growth is due to seasonal factors, fairly stable economic parameters and an increase in discounting from sellers, explained Andrey Grishakov, director of the Department of used cars at Avtodom dealer holdings and Avtospeccenter Group of Companies.
"Definitely, the used car market will show positive dynamics. Globally, the factors that can significantly affect demand are the key rate and changes in exchange rates," the Autostat agency quoted Grishakov as saying on May 29.
According to him, now a decrease in sales of used cars to a level of less than 500 thousand units per month is possible in the event of an increase in the key rate and significant changes in the economy.
Roman Titov, Deputy General Director for Used Cars at Avilon AG, noted that the resurgence in the secondary market is due to dumping by sellers and seasonal growth in consumer activity. In late spring, dealers tend to sell cars at the lowest market prices in order to reduce inventory. There is a particularly weak demand for used cars in the segment of 5 million rubles, and buyers have also begun to place higher demands on the condition of cars, regardless of mileage and year of manufacture, he said.
On May 26, it was reported that in April 2025, Russians purchased 253 used Luxury cars, which is 19% more than in April last year. According to experts, the used luxury car market had been growing for eight months in a row, showed a decline in March, and now it has increased again.
