A year-round mining ban will be introduced in Buryatia and Transbaikalia.

A year-round ban on mining will be introduced in the near future in Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory. This was announced on May 29 by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev at a government meeting.
"In the energy-deficient areas of southeastern Siberia, a temporary ban [on mining] was imposed for the period of the OPP (autumn-winter period. According to the results of this period, this ban will be introduced until 2031," TASS quoted the head of the department as saying.
According to Tsivilev, the ban is already in effect in the Irkutsk Region, and in the near future restrictions will also apply to Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory.
On January 27, Sergey Sasim, director of the Center for Research in the Electric Power Industry at the Institute of Economics and Regulation of Infrastructure Industries at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, announced that the theft of electricity in the Russian Federation by miners reached 10 billion rubles a year.
He clarified that the mining of cryptocurrencies is carried out in violation of the rules, leading to a decrease in the income of energy companies, increasing the load on the energy systems of the regions.
