The Latvian Seimas has adopted amendments to its regulations prohibiting members of Parliament from using languages other than the official Latvian in communication. This was reported by LSM on May 29.

"In the third final reading, the Seimas adopted amendments to the rules of procedure of the Seimas, which provide in the law that members of the Seimas must use the official language among themselves and in communication with the Latvian public," the material says.

In addition, according to the amendments, parliamentarians will be able to participate in meetings remotely in case of an emergency. At the same time, the chairman himself must always be present only in person.

Earlier, in December, Dmitry Kasatkin, Charge d'affaires of Russia in Latvia, told Izvestia that unprecedented pressure on the Russian-speaking population continues in the Baltic republic. According to him, the public space in Latvia is being "cleansed" of the Russian language.
