Lavrov pointed to the West's destruction of the Euro-Atlantic security model

The West itself has put an end to the Euro-Atlantic security model, and the region has lost its role as a locomotive of global development. This was announced on May 29 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Today, we can say with confidence that the Euro—Atlantic region has lost its status as a locomotive of global development," he said at the international hearings on security in Eurasia.

The Minister also noted that Western countries themselves had destroyed the foundations of the Euro-Atlantic security architecture, which they had been creating jointly with Russia since the late 1960s.

According to him, the BRICS association has already surpassed the G7 countries in total economic indicators and this gap continues to widen. According to Lavrov, the center of global economic and investment activity is shifting to Eurasia.

He recalled that the idea of a multipolar world is at the heart of Russian President Vladimir Putin's initiative to form a Large Eurasian Partnership. Work is underway to link the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Lavrov also stressed that in addition to economics, trade and logistics, the goal of the partnership is to form a new architecture for pan—Eurasian security, an initiative that was announced by Putin in July 2024.

The Foreign Minister expressed his conviction that even without a formal nomination, it "would still have made its way as an objective historical process."

On the same day, Putin said that the integration processes within the EAEU are developing dynamically and fruitfully. In addition, the head of state expressed confidence that the EAEU countries would jointly enhance constructive multilateral cooperation "for the benefit of their peoples, in the interests of ensuring well-being and stability in the Eurasian space."
