Mishustin stated the risks of financing terrorism through cryptocurrencies

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has warned of the emergence of new forms of terrorist financing amid digitalization, including the use of crypto assets. He announced this on May 29 in his welcoming speech to the participants of the 42nd plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group on Countering Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, which is taking place in Moscow.
"Against the background of rapid digitalization, new challenges are emerging related to the emergence of sophisticated forms of terrorist financing, including through the use of crypto assets for illegal purposes," Mishustin is quoted as saying on the website of the government of the Russian Federation.
Mishustin noted that the deepening integration in the Eurasian space contributes to the growth and development of the countries of the region, but the rapid introduction of high technologies creates additional challenges.
According to the Prime Minister, coordination of actions of departments in the field of financial security is crucial. The work of the Eurasian Group makes it possible to respond promptly to risks and ensures transparency of financial flows. Over the past 20 years, the participants have managed to build an effective model of international cooperation.
The Head of Government stressed that the meeting, chaired by Russia, would be an important stage in the development of cooperation between the participating states. He expressed confidence that the recommendations developed by the experts would be in demand in practice.
On May 27, it was reported that scammers had come up with a new way to deceive Russians based on cryptocurrency using the screen demonstration function. When registering with a cryptocurrency organization, scammers convince them to turn on the display screen on a smartphone, thereby gaining the opportunity to seize funds.
