Over the past day, 316 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 37 people were killed and 364 injured. 28 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 29 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

13 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 14 more road users, including one child, required medical assistance. The reason for 10 bus accidents was traffic violations by drivers of other vehicles. As a result of 70 accidents, 30 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 40 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, 63 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 17 child pedestrians under the age of 16, six of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings.

57 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 58 young road users were injured, including 17 passengers, 10 cyclists and nine motor transport drivers. Five children were killed — three passengers and two pedestrians. For example, in Novosibirsk, a passenger car driver, reversing through a store parking lot, ran over a three-year-old boy who, accompanied by his mother, was passing through a parking lot where there are no sidewalks and footpaths. The child died.

A similar incident occurred in the Moscow region. In the city of Bronnitsy, a female driver, reversing through a courtyard, ran over a three-year-old girl who was accompanied by her mother. A young pedestrian was killed. In both the first and second cases, drivers did not notice underage pedestrians on the road when reversing, despite the fact that there were adults next to the children.

In Buryatia, on the 38th km of the federal highway A-340 Ulan-Ude - Kyakhta — border with Mongolia, a 20—year-old drunk driver, driving an unregistered passenger car, drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with an SUV driven by a 49-year-old female driver. The impact sent the second car off the road and overturned.

As a result of the accident, an eight-year-old girl passenger of an SUV was killed, who was in the back row of seats and was not wearing a seat belt. Three more passengers of the same vehicle, including a six-year-old boy, were hospitalized with injuries. The injured young passenger was sitting next to his dead sister in the back row of seats at the time of the collision, also without using a child restraint and a seat belt.

In the Moscow region, a 46-year-old car driver drove off the road on a regional highway, followed by a rollover. Two of his young passengers, twin sisters born in 2012, were killed in an accident. The culprit of the car accident and another girl passenger, the same age as the dead children, were injured and were hospitalized.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded that transportation of children under the age of seven should be carried out only with the use of child restraints. Between the ages of seven and 12, transportation is possible using child restraints or seat belts, and in the front seat of a passenger car — only in child restraints.

The department urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and driving discipline. Risky driving, disregard for the established speed limit and dangerous maneuvers should be avoided at all times, and they should especially not be allowed when transporting children. The life and health of young passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of the motorist.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers exercise extreme caution and attention when driving through courtyards and parking areas, especially if it is carried out in reverse. This rule is doubly relevant for parking lots near shops, marketplaces, and shopping and entertainment centers with a large number of pedestrian visitors, many of whom come there with children.

"With the end of the school year and the imminent start of the long summer holidays, there is a high probability of a sudden appearance of school-age children on the road. Therefore, when approaching such facilities, as well as pedestrian crossings, motorists should reduce their speed as much as possible in order to be able to stop the vehicle in case of a sudden change in the road situation. Always remember that the behavior of child pedestrians, as well as underage drivers using bicycles, scooters and personal mobility equipment, is often unpredictable due to age and the characteristics of child or adolescent psychology," Police Colonel Anton told Izvestia. Belan.

Earlier that day, it was reported that the Ministry of Transport had published a draft amendment to the rules of the road explaining the duties of drivers when approaching vehicles with special signals turned on. In the same document, the Ministry proposed introducing the concept of a "child restraint system (device)" into the traffic regulations and defining what exactly applies to these systems.
