An acquaintance of Zaur Gurtsiev, a veteran of the special military operation (SVO), who died with him in an explosion in Stavropol, served in the Airborne Forces. This was announced by his relative on May 29.

The second 29-year-old victim is Nikita Penkov. According to a relative, his sister has been living in Iraq for a year, where she married a local resident and gave birth to a child.

"He was introverted and calm, he didn't hang out in bad companies. He served his military service in the Russian Armed Forces in the Airborne Forces, he had a good relationship with his younger sister," a family member of the deceased shared in an interview with Regnum news agency.

Presumably, Penkov could have brought an explosive device with him. It is noted that at the same time, he might not have known about it because of the remote actuation. Russian special services do not rule out Ukraine's involvement in this incident.

On the night of May 29, two people died in Stavropol, presumably as a result of an explosion. According to the regional Investigative Committee of Russia, the first deputy mayor of the city Gurtsiev and his friend were killed. Also, as a result of the incident, several nearby cars were damaged. The governor of the region, Vladimir Vladimirov, reported that the investigation does not exclude the possibility of a terrorist attack.

Later, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case into the deaths of two residents.
