The Ministry of Finance has allowed restrictions on the operation of foreign cloud services in the Russian Federation

The Ministry of Finance does not exclude that the use of foreign cloud services in the Russian Federation, which have Russian counterparts, will be gradually limited. This was announced on May 29 by the head of the department Maksut Shadaev during the TAdviser Summit conference.

"De facto, these are services that we take from under the floor from foreign companies that, in general, have stopped their work. Yes, there is definitely a user habit conflict. But if companies do not operate [in Russia], if they have defiantly left, it is strange that we continue to pay for these services," the minister said during the event, which was broadcast on the page of the Ministry of Finance on the VKontakte social network.

As Shadaev noted, in Russia, many companies have great difficulties using foreign services, including when paying for them. Against the background of the difficult situation in macroeconomics and the high rate of the Central Bank of Russia, many large customers are forced to reduce their IT budgets.

"In this situation, our approach is that large corporations can consider phasing out the use of foreign cloud services where there are mature Russian counterparts," the minister said.

The decision to limit the operation of foreign cloud services would give Russian companies "the opportunity to earn extra money," the head of the Ministry of Finance emphasized.

Earlier, in March, Roskomnadzor told Izvestia that strict compliance with Russian legislation would be a condition for the return of foreign IT companies to the Russian market. In particular, the agency noted such laws as "On the activities of foreign persons in the Internet information and telecommunications network in the territory of the Russian Federation", "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection", "On Personal Data" and "On Communications".
