Zaur Gurtsiev, a veteran of the special military operation (SVO), who died as a result of the explosion in Stavropol, served as the first deputy mayor of the city. He had previously told Izvestia about his activities.

He took up the position in September last year after studying under the presidential program "Time of Heroes". The veteran had spent most of his life in Stavropol and knew the city's peculiarities well.

"I graduated from kindergarten and school here, and I went to college here. And it is very clearly visible in contrast. After I graduated from the military college, I lived in other settlements. And some moments are very visible in contrast when you are absent here and come periodically. I want to say that our city has always been developing rapidly and very efficiently. It is one of the best cities in Russia in terms of landscaping," he told Izvestia correspondent Leonid Kitrar.

Gurtsiev called the support of the participants of his organization and their family members the main area of work. After his appointment, his colleagues congratulated and supported him.

The veteran of the special operation also showed the correspondent his ceremonial tunic, on which the awards are displayed in three rows. One of the awards is the Order of Courage, which Gurtsiev received for the liberation of Mariupol.

"In such a difficult time, the country must rely on those people who have proved their loyalty to their Fatherland and their people, not by word, but by deed. I believe this will be a strong pillar in the future of our country," Gurtsiev emphasized, speaking about the importance of the Time of Heroes program.

On the night of May 29, two people died in Stavropol, presumably as a result of an explosion. Several nearby cars were also damaged. The governor of the region, Vladimir Vladimirov, reported that the investigation does not exclude the possibility of a terrorist attack. Later, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case into the deaths of two residents, including Gurtsiev. The second victim was a 29-year-old local resident and an acquaintance of the veteran.
