Kuban Deputy Minister of Natural Resources arrested for fraud

Alexander Kainov, the first Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of the Krasnodar Territory, was arrested in Krasnodar on suspicion of fraud for two months. This was announced on May 29 by the joint press service of the courts of the region.

"The Pervomaisky District Court of Krasnodar has considered the investigation's request for a preventive measure against Alexander Kainov. He is suspected of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud". — Ed.). The court granted the petition," the Telegram channel of the press service said.

The investigation found that in the summer of 2023, an acquaintance of the defendant asked for help in changing the sentence of his friend's grandson, who was imprisoned for repeated drunken driving. The suspect, citing his extensive connections, promised that he would help replace the punishment with an unrelated custodial sentence. He demanded 4 million rubles for his services, allegedly in order to transfer them to officials.

Earlier on May 29, the Kalininsky District Court of Chelyabinsk found guilty the former chief engineer of the municipal unitary enterprise "Traffic Management Service" of accepting bribes and fraud on an especially large scale. According to the agency, the defendant received over 2.5 million rubles from a representative of NITauto LLC for general patronage, and also stole budget funds using his official position. The court sentenced him to five years in prison and a fine of 36 million rubles.
