Ubiquitous coffee machines can pose a serious health threat. The main danger lies in the uncontrolled consumption of the drink and the questionable quality of its preparation. Irina Volgina, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia about this on May 29.

"Firstly, when coffee is quickly available and is poured in between, it is difficult to control how much is drunk during the day. Unfortunately, coffee abuse can lead to increased blood pressure, acute cardiovascular events, motor and mental arousal, sleep disorders and other manifestations," the expert explains.

According to the expert, the quality of service of such devices is of particular concern. She explained that there is no data on what kind of water is used in them, how often the machine is cleaned and what kind of coffee is loaded. This is fraught with poisoning with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even impaired consciousness in severe cases.

The expert emphasizes that from a medical point of view, there is no difference between coffee from a vending machine and a coffee shop, however, sanitary standards are more strictly observed in catering establishments. Street vending machines, where it is impossible to control the quality of service, can be considered the most dangerous.

Volgina clarifies that calling coffee machines "killers" would be an exaggeration: various 3-in-1 soluble mixtures with chemical composition are much more harmful.

"But in order to understand that the coffee you drink is healthy, you need to drink it where you are confident in its quality," the specialist summarizes.

Earlier, on November 16, 2024, Julia Vereina, an endocrinologist at the SM Clinic, spoke about the effects of excessive tea consumption on the body. As the expert noted, its excess can disrupt the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) due to a substance called "tannin".
