Sweden is modernizing transport routes for the possible rapid deployment of troops to the Baltic States and Finland. This was announced on May 29 by Russian Ambassador to Stockholm Sergey Belyaev.

According to him, the Swedish authorities are actively developing infrastructure in the north of the country with an eye to accelerating the movement of military units. In addition, Belyaev stressed that Sweden's ratification of the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) with the United States was an important step towards the militarization of the country.

"Washington gets the opportunity to deploy American military contingents and weapons on the territory of the signatory country of the DCA, not only within the framework of allied obligations under the North Atlantic Treaty, but also in a national capacity," RIA Novosti quoted Belyaev as saying.

According to Belyaev, the US military can now use the existing Swedish infrastructure and build a new one, including warehouses for storing equipment and ammunition. He also recalled the joint exercises between the Swedish Army and the US National Guard.

According to the diplomat, the parameters of the US presence in Sweden have not yet been finalized and may be changed depending on the political situation in the United States.

On May 26, Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, said that threats from NATO were rapidly increasing. He noted that key arms control agreements had been destroyed, and the presence of NATO forces in the Baltic region had increased.
