The administration of US President Donald Trump has banned some American companies from providing China with software used to design semiconductors. This was reported on May 28 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

The corresponding order was made by the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Department of Commerce. The ban affected major software vendors such as Synopsys, Siemens EDA and Cadence, which they were notified about in writing.

"In some cases, the Ministry of Commerce has suspended existing export licenses or introduced additional licensing requirements for the duration of the audit," the representative of the department said.

Earlier, on April 25, China lifted duties of 125% on some semiconductors from the United States. It clarifies that, despite China's success in developing its own semiconductor industry, it is still heavily dependent on the import of chips and equipment for the production of chips from the United States. Last year, China imported $11.7 billion worth of semiconductors from the United States.
