In Kamchatka, ash was recorded rising from the slopes of Klyuchevsky volcano to a height of 6.5 km with the height of the volcano itself being 4.75 km. This was announced on Thursday, May 29, by the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (IViS) of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
"Klyuchevskaya volcano in Kamchatka spewed ash 6.5 km above sea level," the institution's Telegram channel says.
As indicated, the ash plume stretches for 5 km to the southwest of the volcano. At the moment, the volcano's activity is dangerous for air transportation, according to the IVIS.
"Klyuchevsky Volcano has been assigned an "orange" aviation hazard code," the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation for the region reported on Telegram.
Klyuchevskaya Volcano is located 360 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Earlier, on May 17, in Kamchatka, for the second time in a day, ash was released from the Shiveluch volcano.
