US President Donald Trump has announced that the American ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barrack, will serve as envoy to Syria. On May 28, the President of the United States announced this on his Truth Social network.

"I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barrack, will serve as our envoy to Syria," Trump said.

He noted that Barrack's main task will be to ensure peace in the Middle East.

Earlier, on May 23, the United States suspended sanctions against Syria for 180 days for humanitarian aid supplies. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that these actions were the first step towards a new relationship between the two countries.
