The media reported on Israel's declassified use of laser missile defense systems


The Israeli Ministry of Defense has declassified data on the use of laser-based missile defense systems to intercept threats during the armed conflict with the Lebanese Hezbollah movement in 2024. This was reported on May 28 by the Calcalist newspaper with reference to the Israeli Defense Ministry.
"As a result of this initiative, military personnel [The Air Force operated prototypes of powerful laser systems in the field, successfully intercepting dozens of enemy threats," the newspaper quoted a statement from the Israel Defense Forces, the Ministry of Defense and the defense concern Rafael.
It is clarified that as a result of the Iron Swords conflict, the Israeli Defense Research and Development Authority under the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force and the Rafael concern implemented an accelerated development program for the deployment of modern interception systems.
Laser systems represent an additional level of defense, which should be carried out by the Israeli Shield of Light laser missile defense system. The weapons are expected to be used by the Israeli army as early as this year.
According to Daniel Gold, head of the Department of Defense Research and Development, Israel was the first in the world to demonstrate the ability to massively intercept targets using a laser in combat conditions.
On May 20, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press service reported that the IDF had eliminated a field commander of the militant wing of the Shiite Hezbollah movement as a result of a strike in southern Lebanon. It is clarified that throughout the entire period of hostilities, the liquidated commander planned numerous terrorist acts against Israel.
