Ukraine has protested to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in connection with reports that Russia is building power transmission lines to connect the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to its energy system. This was announced on May 28 by Ukraine's representative to the international organizations in Vienna, Yuriy Vitrenko.

"Kiev regards any attempt by Russia to connect the Zaporizhia NPP to its networks as a gross violation of international law," said a Ukrainian official quoted by the Reuters news agency.

On May 25, the ZAES press service reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired on the territory next to the station on the day of the IAEA experts' rotation. On the day of the rotation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted artillery fire on the territory immediately adjacent to the site of the nuclear power plant.
