Moscow and Tehran will develop cooperation in the military-technical sphere within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the countries. This was stated on May 28 by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Akbar Ahmadian.

"The document lays a solid foundation for further qualitative expansion of our cooperation in bilateral affairs, including military-technical cooperation (MTC). We expect the treaty to be ratified by the Iranian side as soon as possible," TASS quoted him as saying.

Shoigu also noted that Russia expects Iran to ratify the strategic partnership agreement soon. He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ratified the agreement on April 21.

The Secretary of the Security Council added that bilateral relations between Russia and Iran are actively developing in all directions. According to him, the regular contacts between the leaders of the two countries also indicate a "high level of Russian-Iranian political dialogue."

On May 19, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai, said that the Committee on Foreign Policy and National Security of the Iranian Parliament had approved the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Russia. According to Bagai, the document will be submitted to the Iranian parliament for final approval and ratification in the near future.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries was signed by Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian on January 17, which brought bilateral relations between Moscow and Tehran to a new level. The Russian leader called the document a breakthrough, and the tasks set in the new agreement between the two countries ambitious, aimed at developing cooperation.
