Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the Moscow Union of Gardeners NGO, told how to defeat cottage slugs with beer.

In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, May 28, the expert noted that one of the most effective ways to deal with slugs is mechanical — they need to be collected and destroyed. Traps can be set for them: for example, a plaque with a small can of water diluted with beer.

"Humidity and smell will attract slugs, they will crawl there with great pleasure, and you will be able to collect and destroy them," Tumanov said.

It is also possible to deal with slugs with the help of chemical preparations, but they should be used with caution, because they have a high hazard class, like any poisons.

Ash also helps well: it is filled with paths around the plants. Small particles irritate the slugs' body, and they cannot overcome such an obstacle.

On May 27, residents of Moscow were warned about the summer invasion of giant slugs if the summer is warm and humid. In this scenario, the pests may appear in the capital as early as mid-July. They can grow up to 15 cm in length. Slugs of the Arion vulgaris species are often called Spanish, but their homeland is actually Germany and France, notes 360.ru .

On the same day, State Duma deputy Nikita Chaplin, chairman of the Union of summer residents of the Moscow region, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru" said that these pests can destroy seedlings in a matter of hours. Chaplin noted that such folk methods as branches of needles, onions, tobacco dust and garlic help to protect plants from slugs, writes NSN.

At the same time, RIAMO wrote that residents of the Central Federal District began to complain en masse on social networks about the invasion of Spanish slugs and grape snails. According to zoologists, slugs multiply very quickly and displace native species.

Also on May 27, Olga Trofimova, associate professor of the Department of General Biology and Bioecology at the State University of Education, warned in an interview with Izvestia about the danger of Spanish slugs to humans and animals. Their mucus may contain pathogenic microorganisms and eggs of parasitic worms. There are cases when contact with such slugs has led to infection with meningitis caused by worms.
