The statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the supply of weapons to Ukraine and the obstruction of the launch of the Nord Stream–2 pipeline indicate the "offensive inadequacy" of the West. This was announced on May 28 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"It seems to me that the strategic uncertainty professed by the West has given way to offensive inadequacy," she told TASS.

Earlier in the day, Merz said that when supplying weapons to Kiev, there are no more restrictions on the range of strikes on Russian territory. He stressed that the German government would not allow Nord Stream 2 to be put into operation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on May 28 that Merz's statements about lifting restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine only provoke the continuation of the conflict. A spokesman for the Russian president called the chancellor's behavior a dangerous trend and an irresponsible position.
