The statements of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the lifting of restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine only provoke the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 28 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"This is nothing more than further attempts to force Ukrainians to continue fighting," Peskov said.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation noted that such statements hinder attempts to reach the trajectory of the peace process.

"This is a very dangerous trend, this is an irresponsible position that Germany is taking," Peskov added.

He expressed the hope that Germany would not become an obstacle to further attempts at a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

On May 26, Merz announced that Britain, France, Germany and the United States had lifted range restrictions on weapons supplied to Ukraine. He noted that this decision is aimed at giving it the opportunity to attack targets in Russia.

Later, the co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Vice-Chancellor of Germany Lars Klingbeil denied Merz's statement about the lifting of restrictions. The next day, the German Chancellor said that he had talked about the decisions that had been taken a few months ago, and on May 28 he repeated his statement about the lifting of restrictions.
