The European Union (EU) expects to control the safety of navigation in the Black Sea without the participation of Russia. This was stated on May 28 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, presenting the new EU strategy for the Black Sea region, developed by the European Commission (EC).

"The EU needs a clear understanding of who is doing what in the Black Sea, and it is also important to combat circumvention of sanctions against Russia," said the diplomat, whose speech was broadcast on the website of the EC audiovisual service.

One of the hub's tasks will be to track the movement of Russian tankers transporting oil and petroleum products under market contracts.

"The creation of the Black Sea maritime security hub will strengthen maritime security, the protection of critical infrastructure and the marine environment," Kallas said.

According to the documents, as part of the new EU strategy for the Black Sea, the association will seek to involve all states in the region in the work on the creation of the hub, except Russia.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin pointed out Britain's attempts to shackle the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. According to the diplomat, the United Kingdom is trying to increase the combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy to hinder the actions of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
