Relations between Russia and Yemen have always been friendly, and trade and economic cooperation is developing successfully. This was announced on May 28 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Chairman of the Presidential Governing Council of Yemen Rishad al-Alimi.

Putin noted that he was glad to see the Yemeni politician in Russia.

"We have a lot of contacts, many promising areas. And first of all, of course, we are talking about the development of trade and economic ties. These relations are developing successfully with Yemen. In general, we have a satisfactory volume of trade, somewhere around $400 million," Putin said.

He also added that there are many promising areas in the development of cooperation with Yemen: in agriculture, as well as mining.

In addition, the Russian leader invited al-Alimi to the Russia–Arab World summit, which will be held in Russia in October.

On the same day, Rishad al-Alimi thanked the Russian leader for the support of the internationally recognized government of the republic. The head of the Presidential Governing Council expressed hope for Russia's help in resolving the situation in the state. In addition, upon arrival in the country, he expressed a desire to strengthen relations with the Russian Federation.
