Russia is grateful to US President Donald Trump for the efforts made in the context of resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 28 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier in the day, the American leader said that Russia was allegedly "playing with fire," without explaining his words. In his opinion, if it weren't for him, "a lot of bad things would have already happened to Russia."

The press secretary of the Russian president stressed that he would not comment on the relevant statements of the US president.

"We are grateful for the mediation efforts of President Trump personally. At the same time, there are definitely a lot of nuances within the framework of what needs to be discussed, which cannot be sacrificed and which neither side will sacrifice based on its national interests," he said.

According to Peskov, Russia, like the United States, also has national interests that are above all for President Vladimir Putin. He stressed that the Russian side is also working hard, as well as preparing for the next round of direct negotiations with Ukraine.

Peskov noted that the American side and Trump personally want the conflict to be resolved as soon as possible. According to him, Moscow will also continue contacts with Washington.
