Eid prayer on Eid al-Adha: What time does the text of the dua start?

On Friday, June 6, Muslims around the world celebrate the feast of the sacrifice of Eid al-Adha. The celebration is considered one of the most important in Islam and is celebrated annually 70 days after the Eid al-Adha holiday. On this day, believers remember the feat of the Prophet Ibrahim and gather in mosques to perform prayer. Izvestia tells us when and where prayer will take place in 2025, and also publishes the text of the festive prayer.
What time does the prayer for Eid al-Adha begin?
Namaz is performed every year in the early morning, after dawn. The exact time is determined by the muftis of the region. So, in Moscow and the Moscow region, the festive sermon usually begins at 07:00 and lasts an hour, in St. Petersburg — at 08:00, and in Tatarstan — at about 03:30. In some regions, the beginning of prayer may be scheduled for a later time.
In the capital, the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, located at 7 Vypolzov Lane (Prospekt Mira metro station), traditionally becomes the main place for Eid al-Adha celebrations. The event is being broadcast live on the official channel of the Council of Muftis and the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia. In addition, from 9:00 a.m., the festive prayer on the record is shown by the Rossiya 1 TV channel.
Prayers are also held near the Historical Mosque (Novokuznetsk and Tretyakovskaya metro stations), the Memorial Mosque on Poklonnaya Gora (Victory Park metro station), the Inam and Yardyam mosque complex in Otradnoye and at additional sites, such as the Technical Sports Park in Pechatniki. In addition to prayers and sacrifice, various family and charity events are organized here. And the annual Kurban Fest festival is held on the square near the Memorial Mosque.
The holiday is celebrated on a large scale in regions where Islam is the predominant religion: Adygea, Bashkiria, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, the Republic of Crimea, Karachay-Cherkessia, Tatarstan, Chechnya. Eid al-Adha is declared a day off there, and the celebrations themselves last 2-3 days.
Eid prayer — how it is performed, which includes
Eid namaz (festive prayer) is performed by Muslims on the day of Eid al-Adha (Arabic. Eid al-Adha) half an hour after sunrise and lasts until noon. The place of commission is a mosque or an open space. Before prayer, believers perform a complete ablution and put on clean clothes. Before that, it is customary to observe a fast for 10 days, and on the holiday itself to refuse breakfast. Women, the elderly and believers with health problems can participate in prayer at will. For all other Muslims, attending prayer is considered mandatory.
The text of the dua (prayer) at the sacrifice on Eid al-Adha
Muslims call Friday the day of abundance, because on this day the boundless mercy of the Almighty is sent down. It is believed that on the holiday, sins are forgiven and dua, personal appeals to Allah in their native language, are accepted. Dua Sana is traditionally recited, an introductory prayer that expresses admiration for Allah, recognizing His power and greatness.
Special duas are recited during the sacrifice ceremony. Before slaughtering a ritual animal (usually a ram, sheep or goat), the words are spoken aloud or to oneself: "I intend to make a sacrifice for the sake of the satisfaction of Allah Almighty on behalf of (the name of the person who commits Eid al-Adha is called).
According to the Islamic faith, one's intention must be expressed before any ritual act. Then they say the words "Bismillah, Allahu Akbar!" which translates to "In the name of Allaah, Allaah is Great!" Sometimes they limit themselves to just this phrase. However, if it is not pronounced, then animal meat will not be considered halal and it cannot be eaten.
After the end of the ritual, they say "Allahumma tagabbal minni!", which means "O Allah, accept this sacrifice from me!". This is a prayer service expressing a request to accept an animal as a sacrifice, which was given as food, as a good intention for the glory of the Almighty.
How to behave as a Muslim during prayer
During the performance of the collective prayer, believers are instructed to observe a number of rules. In Islam, a mosque is considered the house of Allah, so you need to behave appropriately in it. You should enter the room in clean, neat clothes, without harsh perfume, and always with your right foot, but you should leave with your left foot.
At the entrance, the following words are pronounced: "Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik" ("O Allah, open to me the gates of Your mercy"). After that, it is necessary to remove and put the shoes in special shelves and go to the prayer hall, taking an empty place on the floor. You can pre-read the salat of the mosque, which consists of two rakats.
All those present are greeted with the phrase "As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakyatuhu" ("Peace be upon you, mercy and blessings of God"). In response to this greeting, they say "Wa alaikum-s-salaam" ("And peace be upon you").
During the entire prayer, the believer should sit quietly, not make unnecessary noises and not disturb people performing prayer. It is also forbidden to engage in activities that are not related to worship. Including talking on a mobile phone. All devices must be turned off in advance or put on silent mode.
Earlier, Izvestia told how to congratulate Muslims on the Eid al-Adha holiday.
