We need to grow enough potatoes for Belarus and Russia. This was announced by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko on May 28.

"There's a lot of talk. Especially after the meeting with the President of Russia [Vladimir Putin], where he made a joke about potatoes. But this is a very serious issue for us. <...> We need to grow enough for us and Russia," BelTA quoted him as saying.

In addition, Lukashenko added that in this way the country will help "Russian brothers."

The day before, Putin said that at a meeting with business representatives he was told that there were not enough potatoes in Russia. The President also noted that the agricultural sector in Russia is currently developing, becoming a high-tech and interesting area of work.
