The Russian Embassy in Germany has sent a protest note to the German Foreign Ministry in connection with the desecration of wreaths laid at the memorial to Soviet prisoners of war on the territory of the former SS training ground, part of the Dachau memorial complex. This was announced on May 28 by the press service of the diplomatic mission.

"The Embassy expects that these actions of the administration of the Dachau memorial complex will be given a proper legal, political, and moral assessment," the diplomatic mission's Telegram channel says.

According to the embassy, in response to a corresponding request, the management of the memorial complex acknowledged that these actions were committed on its direct instructions, citing "established restrictions."

It clarifies that such behavior damages the process of historical reconciliation between the peoples of Russia and Germany and violates the provisions of the German Criminal Code, which provides for responsibility for the abuse of state symbols of foreign states.

The Russian Consulate General in Bonn has applied to law enforcement agencies with a statement on the initiation of a criminal case. The law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation have also been notified of the incident.

On May 9, it was reported that unknown persons had cut the ribbons on wreaths laid by Russian and Belarusian diplomats at the memorial on the territory of the former Dachau concentration camp in southern Germany. During the Second World War, over 200,000 prisoners from 24 countries, including citizens of the USSR, were held there.
