US President Donald Trump may decide as early as this week whether Washington will strengthen restrictions against Moscow. This was reported on May 27 by the Politico newspaper, citing American officials.

"Trump has yet to make a decision on whether to impose additional sanctions on Moscow," the article says.

It is noted that the head of the White House is disappointed that the Russian leader allegedly "brushed off his proposal" to reset relations with the United States after a peaceful settlement.

The publication notes that the "cautious call" for the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions comes from pro-Ukrainian officials in the US government.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on May 26 that Trump may impose new anti-Russian sanctions this week. It was noted that the reason for this decision was the disappointment of the American leader with the pace of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

The next day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that many media outlets were trying to disrupt the peace process in Ukraine and egg on the United States to impose new sanctions against Russia. He stressed that the Kremlin is aware of this, but at the same time notes the "balanced" approach of Trump.
