Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Gomelauri announces his resignation


Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri has announced his resignation. The corresponding statement was published on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on May 28.
"I would like to inform the public that I have decided to resign from the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia," Gomelauri said.
According to the politician, retirement will allow him to devote more time to his family — his wife, children and a recently born grandson.
Gomelauri noted that in the future he is ready to side with the state and the ruling team at any time, "if such a need arises."
"I remain loyal to my country and the team. I wish my country and government peace, security and the achievement of all set goals," the politician concluded.
For more than 10 years, Gomelauri held the positions of Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Head of the State Security Service and Deputy Prime Minister, adds "Газета.Ru ".
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing that Gela Geladze, Deputy head of the Security Service, had become the new head of the country's Interior Ministry.
On May 14, representatives of the Russian Federation and Georgia discussed the expansion of trade between the two countries. The trade turnover between Russia and Georgia continues to grow, reaching more than $2.5 billion in 2024. Georgia exports wine and other alcohol, mineral water, lemonades, as well as fruits and vegetables to Russia.
