Three days of mourning have been declared in Baikalsk, Irkutsk region, after the deaths of five teenagers and the wounding of four others as a result of a knife attack. This was announced on May 28 by the head of the administration of the Baikal urban settlement Vasily Temgenevsky.

"Three days of mourning are being declared in the Baikal urban settlement on May 28, 29 and 30," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The head of the city administration also called for support for the families and friends of the victims and "not to use rumors."

Presumably, the tragedy occurred as a result of drinking alcohol at a birthday party, he said.

As reported to Interfax in the regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the victims ranged from 13 to 17 years old, among them one girl.

The deaths of five teenagers and the wounding of four as a result of a knife attack became known earlier that day. It is specified that after that, the alleged suspect set fire to the house and died as a result of the fire that started. A criminal case has been opened into the tragedy.

Later, the Commissioner for Children's Rights reported that one of the injured children had undergone surgery. An operational headquarters was set up in Baikalsk following the incident.
