An operational headquarters was set up in Baikalsk, Irkutsk region, after the deaths of five teenagers and the wounding of four others as a result of a knife attack and a fire in a local horticulture. This was announced on May 28 by the governor of the region Igor Kobzev.

"On my instructions, an operational headquarters has been set up in Baikalsk. Deputy Governor Vyacheslav Eglit and Deputy Prime Minister Valentina Voblikova left to work on the spot," he wrote on the Telegram channel.

In addition to them, a team of psychologists, the heads of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Services of the region, as well as the regional Commissioner for Children's Rights went to the site.

Kobzev clarified that the teenagers were celebrating the birthday of one of them in gardening, and the attack was carried out by a participant in the celebration. Later, the attacker set fire to the house and died. One of the four victims is in extremely serious condition.

The deaths of five teenagers and the wounding of four as a result of a knife attack became known earlier that day. It is specified that after that, the alleged suspect set fire to the house and died as a result of the fire that started. A criminal case has been opened into the tragedy.

Later, the Commissioner for Children's Rights reported that one of the injured children had undergone surgery. According to her, three are receiving psychological help.
