The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) opened fire near a humanitarian aid distribution point in southern Gaza, killing at least three people. This was reported by Al Jazeera TV channel on Tuesday, May 27.

"Three dead and 46 injured as a result of Israeli army shelling near a humanitarian aid station," the channel's Telegram account said.

The incident occurred in the city of Rafah, they said. The aid was distributed among the residents of the enclave by employees of the private Humanitarian Aid Fund for Gaza (GHF).

On May 18, Israel launched a new ground operation in the Gaza Strip, dubbed the "Chariots of Gideon." Its goal is to establish stricter operational control of the Israel Defense Forces over the Palestinian enclave and destroy the command system of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.

The IDF's plans to expand its ground operations in the Gaza Strip became known on May 17. The Israeli army said at the time that they continued to seek the release of the hostages and the destruction of Hamas.
