Sergunina spoke about the development of libraries in Moscow

There are 440 city-affiliated libraries in Moscow. Since the beginning of 2025 alone, readers have taken in almost 3.2 million publications. This was announced by Deputy Mayor of the capital Natalia Sergunina.
"Modern Moscow libraries are comfortable multi—format spaces that attract about 10 million people annually. Visitors take books and periodicals, study in clubs and sections, work in coworking spaces, participate in master classes and meetings with writers," Natalia Sergunina noted.
As part of a comprehensive renovation, the premises are being put in order, modern equipment is being purchased, wireless Internet access is being provided, and book collections are being replenished. In 2024, renovation work was completed in 13 libraries.
The modernization program was launched in 2018. Thus, a single information system and a Single reader's Ticket were introduced, which is currently valid in all libraries of the city. To date, about 1.3 million such tickets have been issued, of which 62 thousand have been issued since January of this year.
Through the Library of Moscow service, users can search and book publications, extend the shelf life of literature, receive personal recommendations from artificial intelligence and get acquainted with thematic collections. The system has more than 15 million copies, and the number of bookings made through the platform has exceeded 800 thousand.
Cultural and educational events remain an important area of library activity. Over 30,000 events are organized annually, including concerts, performances, festivals and promotions. Libraries are actively involved in large-scale urban initiatives such as the Biblionoch and the Red Square Book Festival. The institutions have clubs and sections covering a wide variety of fields: from literary and theatrical to musical and environmental studies.
