An investigation into the death of a married couple as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning has been completed in Novomoskovsk (Tula region). The person involved in it is a locksmith of the gas service, the regional SU of the Investigative Committee of Russia reports in its Telegram channel.

The tragedy occurred in February 2025 in one of the houses on Shakhterskaya Street in the Sokolniki neighborhood. According to investigators, an employee of the gas service performed a poor visual inspection of the equipment in the apartment and failed to identify violations in a timely manner.

According to TSN24, at the same time, the locksmith drew up a certificate of acceptance for the completed maintenance, confirming the serviceability of the gas system. As a result of his actions, a married couple who lived in the apartment died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The man was charged under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Rendering services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two persons by negligence." In the near future, the case materials with the approved indictment will be submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.

On May 7, Alexander Yakubovsky, a member of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, called for increased inspections of gas equipment in apartment buildings and tougher liability for negligence.
