The US State Department expressed support for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

The United States continues to support direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated to reporters on May 27 at a briefing by the official representative of the US State Department, Tammy Bruce.

"We continue to support direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The President [of the United States Donald Trump] supports any mechanism that will lead to a just, lasting and long—term peace," said Bruce, whose speech was broadcast on the department's YouTube channel.

In addition, she noted that in the Ukrainian conflict there is no way to resolve the crisis through military action. In her opinion, "a diplomatic solution is needed."

On May 27, Ankara will discuss with Moscow the possibilities of resolving the conflict.

Earlier in the day, Trump's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that the United States had received a list of conditions for a peace agreement from Ukraine and was now awaiting demands on this topic from Russia. After studying both memoranda, it will be necessary to arrange another settlement meeting.
