HBO has officially announced the actors who will star in the upcoming Harry Potter series. Harry will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Ron by Alastair Stoat, and Hermione by Arabella Stanton. This was reported on May 27 by the newspaper Variety.

"We are pleased to announce that we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron," said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod.

The creators of the project reported that the choice of actors was not easy and lasted for many months. The casting was the largest in recent times: more than 30 thousand young actors from all over the world applied for roles. According to them, the new actors "have an amazing combination of personality and talent" and the audience is waiting for "real magic on the screen."

As reported, the new performers are practically beginners. McLaughlin previously starred in the British comedy Grow, Stanton played Matilda in the West End musical of the same name, and this role will be the debut for Stoat. The creators hope that the actors will have the same career as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who became famous in the early 2000s.

The script and the overall concept of the series are supervised by Francesca Gardiner. The project is being implemented by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV. Author J. K. Rowling is also listed among the executive producers.

Filming of the series will begin in the summer of 2025.

On February 25, ScreenRant reported that American actor John Lithgow will play Professor Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series, which is scheduled to premiere in 2026. In an interview for the publication, 79-year-old Lithgow admitted that this decision was not easy for him, but he agreed to accept the offer to participate in the filming.
