The turnover of the capital's food industry producers in the first quarter of 2025 is 221 billion rubles. Compared to the same period last year, it increased by 10.3% in comparable prices. Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city, told Izvestia about this on May 28.

"The Moscow food industry is actively developing. Enterprises are expanding their production capacities, introducing new modern technologies, which allows them to increase the volume and quality of products and supply them not only to the metropolitan market, but also to other regions of the country," she explained.

Bagreeva clarified that in January – March 2025, the turnover of the food industry reached 221 billion rubles, more than 10% higher than in the first quarter of last year. About 21% of this amount — 46 billion rubles — was provided by meat industry enterprises. Factories producing bakery and flour confectionery products earned almost 15%, or 32.7 billion rubles. Dairy producers account for more than 12% (26.9 billion rubles).

The specialist noted that the growth leaders in the first quarter were companies specializing in the production of fat and oil products. Their turnover increased almost nine times over the year, to 649 million rubles. Flour mills increased revenue by almost 39% to 5.3 billion rubles. Canned fruit and vegetable producers increased their turnover by 35% to 7.4 billion rubles.

"More than 77% of the turnover of the food industry, or 171.1 billion rubles, is accounted for by large and medium-sized enterprises. Their turnover increased by 5.5% compared to the first quarter of last year. Small enterprises earned 49.7 billion rubles, which is almost 23% of the industry turnover. Their revenue increased by 31% over the year," Bagreeva said.

Food production is one of the leading areas of the capital's industry. The share of this industry in the total turnover of the city's manufacturing industries, excluding the oil and gas sector, is 12.9%. The capital provides more than 6% of the turnover of the Russian food industry.

Earlier, on April 22, it was reported that the number of individual entrepreneurs in the capital in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to almost 461 thousand. This follows from the data of the Unified Register of Small and Medium-sized Businesses. This figure is 7% more than a year earlier.
