The risk of deteriorating relations with the United States and new sanctions against Russia remains, but so far the new administration led by President Donald Trump seems much more open to dialogue. Andrei Klimov, a member of the Federation Council, expressed this opinion on Tuesday, May 27.

The senator recalled that the American leader had already imposed sanctions against Russia.

"But as long as Trump and his team are taking all steps to help normalize at least diplomatic relations between our states, his position will be significantly different from his predecessors who did not want to talk to Russia," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Klimov also pointed to a noticeable increase in the number of people who want to create a split between Moscow and Washington. He urged to be more careful about the statements of Western publications and politicians in order to prevent this.

"We need to preserve the seeds of a possible normalization of relations. And I would urge everyone to focus on moving forward," the senator concluded.

On May 26, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Trump may impose new anti-Russian sanctions this week, writes RIAMO.

It is noted that the reason for this decision was the disappointment of the American leader with the pace of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

On May 26, The New York Times reported on Trump's intention to distance himself from the conflict in Ukraine. It is noted that the American leader often talks about his desire to join the anti-Russian sanctions of European countries, "however, every time he is forced to make a decision to join the new economic sanctions of Europe, he backs down."
