The European Commission has launched an investigation into four platforms — Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX and XVideos — on suspicion of violating the Digital Services Act (DSA), in particular due to "insufficient measures to protect pornographic content from access by minors." According to the commission, these platforms have not provided sufficient security measures, including effective age verification, which makes it possible for children to access explicit content. Brussels believes that companies should have assessed the risks in advance and implemented protective tools, but did not do so.

The press release emphasized that the opening of an investigation does not automatically mean an admission of guilt, but gives grounds for a deeper analysis and possible further sanctions. Among the measures that can be taken are time restrictions, fines, and obligations to correct violations.

The investigation was a logical continuation of the discussions that began in the spring of 2025. At that time, the European Commission presented draft recommendations for online child protection services. It contains proposals for the introduction of age verification technologies such as biometric assessments and digital identity cards.
