- Szijjarto called on Kiev to explain the liquidation of the Hungarian party in Transcarpathia

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Tuesday, May 27, demanded an explanation from Kiev amid reports of a possible ban and liquidation of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.
"Hands off the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Society! We demand immediate explanations from the government of Ukraine in connection with media reports about the ban of the party representing the Hungarian community of Transcarpathia and fighting for their rights!" wrote Szijjarto on Facebook (owned by the extremist Meta company recognized in Russia, its activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation).
The Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Society participates in the Ukrainian elections and has seats in the regional council. The head of the party, Vasily (Laszlo) Brenzovich was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the 2014 parliamentary elections. In recent years, he has been in Hungary due to persecution by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
At a press conference with Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, the Hungarian Foreign Minister said on May 21 that Ukraine was actively promoting anti-Hungarian propaganda at the international level. Budapest defends its sovereignty by preventing the subversive activities of Kiev and its special services. The Minister noted that recently the Ukrainian special services have been intensifying their activities in Hungary.
At a meeting of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council in Geneva on February 25, Szijjarto declared Ukraine's violation of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia. He noted that this has been happening for the past 10 years, and Hungarians living in the region cannot, for example, use their native language in the fields of education, culture, press and public administration.
