Belgium postponed the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine until 2028. This was reported on May 26 by the French-language Belgian newspaper La Libre.
"Belgium will supply Ukraine with 30 F-16s by 2028," the article says.
It is specified that the European country has already accepted the delivery of these aircraft from the Netherlands for preparation before shipment.
"Dutch F-16s stopped in Belgium before final delivery to Ukraine," La Libre writes.
In total, Amsterdam will transfer 24 such fighters to Kiev.
On May 6, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken announced that the country had postponed the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine indefinitely due to the postponement of deliveries of F-35 aircraft from the United States. He added that Belgium plans to purchase NASAMS and Patriot air defense systems in order to protect the institutions of the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), Euroclear and SWIFT, which are located on its territory.
