Over the past day, 327 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 26 people were killed and 383 injured. There are 21 dead passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on May 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

23 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 33 road users, including two children, required medical attention. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 86 accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 52 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, and 86 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured pedestrians are 32 children under the age of 16, 13 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway at pedestrian crossings.

64 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 67 young road users were injured, including 13 child passengers, 14 cyclists and five motor transport drivers. Three children (a pedestrian, a passenger and a cyclist) were killed.

In the Sverdlovsk region, on 9 km of the Krasnoslobodskoye—Lipchinskoye regional highway, a passenger car driver ran over an 11-year-old cyclist who, unaccompanied by adults, was moving along the right edge of the carriageway in the same direction as the car that hit him. The young cyclist died.

In the Perm Region, on 100 km of the federal highway R-243 Kostroma – Perm, a truck driver crashed into a Gazelle while passing an unregulated intersection, which was preparing to turn left. The Gazelle was thrown into the oncoming lane, where a second truck crashed into it. The accident killed the Gazelle driver and his 15-year-old son, who was in the front passenger seat and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The driver of the first truck ended up in the hospital with injuries, the driver of the second was sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

In one of the villages of the Khabarovsk Territory, a truck driver lost control, the car left the road, ran over three pedestrian children and overturned. As a result of the accident, one 10-year-old schoolboy was killed, two more minor pedestrians (an 11-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl) were hospitalized with injuries. The 44-year-old truck driver was referred for outpatient treatment after receiving medical treatment.

During the end of the school year and the upcoming summer school holidays, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities. Special care should be taken by people driving when approaching pedestrian crossings, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop. The behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, so you should not rush to resume traffic, even at a clear traffic light. The department also drew the attention of drivers to the observance of the rules for transporting children.

In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded parents of the need to be more attentive to children and try to ensure maximum safety for them on the road in the summer. They should not be allowed to go outside alone and retroreflective elements should be used on children's outerwear, while monitoring their wearing.

"Have an explanatory conversation with your children about the rules of safe cycling, paying special attention to the need to dismount when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. It is necessary to regularly tell them about the rules of the road, the dangers of entering the roadway and the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, especially when crossing the road. Focus on the fact that access to public roads for cyclists is allowed only when they reach the age of 14," Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

The lack of parental control on the street for children of preschool and primary school age in the spring and summer season often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users. According to operational information, 1,620 accidents involving children occurred in Russia during the 26 days of May, in which 33 minor road users were killed, and another 1,754 were injured, the State Traffic Inspectorate added.

A day earlier, it was reported that the average fine for traffic violations in Russia in the spring of 2025 was 930 rubles. This is one and a half times more than the same period last year.
