Feodor Zhitnik – 2025: the history of the holiday
Fyodor the Consecrated was born in Egypt in the 4th century into a wealthy Christian family. The young man received an excellent education, and his parents expected him to make a brilliant secular or scientific career.
However, already in his early youth, Theodore experienced a craving for spiritual life and at the age of 14 secretly entered a monastery, where he became a disciple of St. Pachomius the Great. Under his guidance, the young monk quickly succeeded, showing humility, obedience, and compassion.
Fyodor was the first to take the priesthood in the monastery. After the death of Pachomius, he headed the Tavennis monastery, and then all the monasteries of the Thebaid, contributing to their spiritual and organizational development. St. Athanasius the Great, Archbishop of Alexandria, one of the key theologians of his time, showed special respect to the monk.
For his faithfulness to the teachings of Christ and humility, Theodore received the gift of miracle-working from God.
