A former professor who gave 50 million rubles to fraudsters committed suicide


A former professor at Moscow State University (MSU), who handed over more than 50 million rubles to fraudsters, committed suicide. This was announced on May 27 by a source of Izvestia.
"The scientist's body was found outside the city, where he was meeting with a friend," the source said.
According to a friend, the professor complained about the problems and looked depressed.
In addition, law enforcement officers found a copy of the resolution on the initiation of a criminal case on fraud in the man's personal belongings.
It was clarified that at first the attackers convinced the man to transfer all the money allegedly to a secure account, then persuaded him to sell two apartments, and transfer the proceeds to them.
Earlier, on December 1, 2024, fraudsters defrauded a St. Petersburg University lecturer of 1.7 million rubles. It was reported that the attacker called the man and introduced himself as an FSB officer. He further reported fraudulent activities with the teacher's bank account, persuaded the teacher to withdraw the savings and transfer them to a "secure" account. The amount of damage amounted to 1,715 million rubles.
